LOUISIANA REGGAE FUNK THE UNIQUE IRIE TONES OF
HENRY TURNER JR. & FLAVOR
HIT CITY RECORDS ARTIST BIOGRAPHY
What happens when you mix different people with several different styles of music and a deep love to create something unique? You get the band Henry Turner Jr. & Flavor. A band whose unique style and presence on stage has given them a special following in their native Louisiana and now the world.
Henry Turner Jr. & Flavor started with Henry Turner Jr. His first thought was to create a band whose music would be appreciated by a large number of people and musical markets. Mr. Turner wanted to create a completely different kind of sound. Henry, who is also the president of Hit City Records, has managed several successful independent bands and artists. This, with the love of music that started from an early age, has allowed him to bring together a unique collection of people.
Henry Turner Jr., lead vocalist and guitarist for the band, is the driving force behind this band’s appeal. Henry’s influence on the band comes somewhat from his early musical influences. Blues and jazz greats like B.B. King Bob Marley and George Benson have allowed Henry to bring forth a unique perspective to the realm of reggae. The style of the music, as quoted by Henry, is “… an infused sound … also an infusion of R&B Reggae with some jazz chording.” This unique style has allowed the band to go where other bands cannot.
Irie Hip, bassist and vocalist, the newest member of the band, a urban reggae artist bass player whose unique style and stage presence has thrilled fans in the San Francisco Bay Area, Louisiana, Europe, Canada and Japan.
Irie Hip whose real name is Anthony Butler was born and raised in Baton Rouge, La. At the tender age of 11 he knew he wanted to be involved in the music industry. He was playing several instruments by the age of 17.He has worked with Lenny Williams, and Allen Glass who had numerous hits for major artist.
Irie Hip’s bass playing and vocals is the driving force for his new URBAN FUNK REGGAE SOUND. Irie Hip says his goal as an artist is to continue to gain momentum in popularity, record and perform at home and abroad.
Ronnie Houston, the senior member of the Flavor band, is a profound R&B drummer. With various influences, including artists such as Bobby Powell, James Brown, Buddy Rich and Billy Cobham, Ronnie has toured the United States and Europe since the early 1970s. Ronnie has added an element of stability to the Flavor roster since 1990.

HENRY TURNER, JR & FLAVOR
RELEASE SINGLE
GIVE ME LOVE
LIVE FROM NEW ORLEANS WITH SPECIAL GUEST
HURRICANE KATRINA!
Baton Rouge, LA.Henry Turner, Jr. & Flavor is pleased to announce the
release of their new single GIVE ME LOVE, Live from New Orleans, with
Special Guest, Hurricane Katrina! It is currently available at
www.henryturnerjr.com and at www.ballardsbytes.com.
The song, recorded live at Café Negril as part of the New Orleans Cutting
Edge Business Institutes' annual conference, has been getting a positive
response from advance copies from national and international media.
Turner, during the exodus and aftermath of Hurricane Katrina's ravaging
New
Orleans, personally housed more than 16 displaced musicians and helped
more
than 20 folks apply for aid from FEMA. On a trip to his local gas
station,
he and his friends aided stranded travelers by giving them water and
taking
up donations from nearby houses to allow the evacuees to purchase gas and
continue to their journey.
Comments Turner, "We all needed and continue to need love, especially
during
these catastrophic times. Now is the time to band together and help one
another. That what the underlying theme of this song is all about and I
pray
it will be a calming influence for society."
Henry Turner, Jr.& Flavor's unique brand of Louisiana Reggae/Funk, with
jazz, blues and R&B infusions has been described as. 'a sure crowd
pleaser.'
Radio play hits include "Fat Baby," "Limbo," "Louisiana Funk," "Praising
Jah" and "Family," on their "Will Work For Money," "Facing the Mellenium"

Message from Mushiya:
Just so you all will know. Henry Turner Jr and Flavor Band have been doing more than can ever be expected from a human being with a disaster such as this. Not only have they (Henry) put people up at his home in Baton Rouge (over 30). Many have come to this Reggae house of Refuge with only the clothes on their backs and Henry has provided. They have also taken Gas to those who are stranded, aided those who have come to him for money to reach their next point. Henry them are true "Soldiers of JAH" giving all of what they can without complaint. It's amazing that he stays so upbeat, even though being a Struggling Reggae Band, they suffer too. Their HEARTS! ARE BIGGER THAN LIFE! - Give Thanks for Jah's seed of Love.
Jah Bless and Guide - Henry Turner Jr. and Flavor. For the True Love than are showing to those who are suffering bad.

A letter from my dear friend Attorney Joe Heartlaub that touched me enough to share.Henry, I'm almost tapped out, I spread a lot of money around to friends
in need this past week but your letters have touched my heart and I need
to help once again. My wife and I talked about it this evening and we
decided that we need to do what a priest told me in grade school. "Don't
give 'till it hurts --- give 'till it feels good." Just so. I'll be
sending you a contribution this week. What is easier for you, a check or
money order? And should I send it to the PO box? It won't be a lot, and
it won't be enough --- there isn't that much money in the world --- but I
need to step up to the plate once more to the extent that I can. Use it
as you see fit, whether to give to someone in need or to replenish what
you have given so generously and lovingly this past week.
Thank you for all you do.
Best,
Joe | 06/09/2005

To all whom it may concern Henry Turner Jr. and Flavor has decided to stop the regular tour schedule and put all focus on organizing a benefit concert tour for friends and families we know personally here
in Louisiana who need help recovering from Hurricane Katrina see if
anyone is interested in doing a fund raiser concert with us headlining
we are going to give 20% of what we earn to the families we know are in
need!!!! (Note: from Joanna Ballard this is extremely generous considering
the lack of gas and the prices in Baton Rouge LA! Not to the lack and
cost of groceries!)
This is a urgent request and we will take on all venues and
promoters and will show up for whom ever are interested and can afford
to do a fund raiser. please pass this on to everyone it will be
difficult to call us the phones are iffy at best here in Louisiana but
the e-mail is working just fine. give thanks and praise for all of
you!!!
(Another note added by Joanna Ballard: To donate to immediate rrelief in
Baton Rouge please contact Mr, Turner any of the
ways below in his signature Otherwise please donate to the
Red Cross ASAP, Thanks!)
